NetBSD/i386 1.4.2 README file 1. boot.fs is not provided. During the last weeks of 1.4.2, the normal INSTALL kernel grew just a little too big for a single floppy. Two alternatives are provided: boot-small.fs which will fit on both 1.44M and 1.2M floppies, and the "fdset" images, boot1.fs and boot2.fs. How to use the "fdset" images: copy both images to 1.44M disks. boot the boot1.fs disk. when prompted, insert the boot2.fs disk and hit enter. 2. Look in installation/floppy, not installation/floppies. Historically, NetBSD/i386 has put floppy images in "floppies" but this is not what the release(7) man page specifies. 3. INSTALL.html generated with "latin1" character set, not ASCII. 4. Fix for GENERIC kernel crash when booted from non-disk device. If the kernel was booted from a non-disk device (such as the network), LFS would crash during initialization. 5. file-system UNION disabled in GENERIC kernel for security reasons. Due to concerns about known security exploits using the UNION file system, it has been disabled in the shipping kernel. The LAST_MINUTE file contains diffs for #2, #3, #4, and #5.
