Hello, You are now in the 'home' directory of the NetBSD/Atari release, further referred to as $HOME in this README. This directory tree contains the NetBSD/Atari-1.2.1 release. NOTE: The 1.2.1 release is a _patch release_ for 1.2. It is _not_ the latest (or '-current') atari binary set. So if you are looking for the IDE or Lance drivers, look into the directory: ..../NetBSD/arch/atari A quick overview of the directory structure: - floppies : This directory contains the images for the boot and install floppies. This directory also contains the installation document 'INSTALL'. This document describes how the installation and update procedures work. You should read this document _before_ doing anything! - binary: This directory contains the binary distrubition sets. - kernels: This directory contains the available kernels. Note that the 'BOOT.gz' kernel is the same as the one on the boot floppy. - security: This directory contains the binaries that include DES software. As I can't build them myself according to US-law, I merely copied them from the amiga distribution for completeness. - utils.tos: This directory contains various TOS utilities needed to install NetBSD/Atari that are not on the boot floppy. - corrections: Some corrected binaries. Most, if not all, files have the '.gz' extension. They are 'gzipped' and can be unpacked using 'gzip'. There is also a gzip.ttp available in 'utils.tos'. If you are wondering how the floppy images found here can be put on floppy using TOS, grab 'rawwrite' from the "utils.tos" directory and look in INSTALL how to use it. You are advised to browse through the various 'README' files. There exists a FAQ for NetBSD/Atari. It can be found at ftp.netbsd.org in the directory: /pub/NetBSD/arch/atari . Please read it before sending out questions to either the mailing-list or me. Your problem might be solved there. If it is not, you can ask it on the mailing list. You can subscribe to it by sending a mail with body text "subscribe port-atari" to majordom@NetBSD.ORG. For the unexperienced installer, Christian Peppermueller has written a specially tailored installation guide. It is not meant to be used without the INSTALL document however! It contains a lot of useful info, you can find it as 'BEGINNER.INSTALL'. Work on NetBSD goes on! Updated kernels, binary snapshots etc. are made every now and then. They can be found on ftp.netbsd.org in the directory /pub/NetBSD/arch/atari. Last, if you have seen any errors or think something is unclear or have updates/replacements for certain sections, drop me a mail. All contributions are welcome! Good luck! - Leo
