Description of files found in .../NetBSD-1.2/i386/binary:


Every directory contains a CKSUMS file that contains checksums of
all the other files made with the cksum(1) utility. Please check
the integrity of your distribution if possible.

The "Tarfiles" directory contains the gzip compressed tar files of
the binary distribution -- the split versions of these same files
are located in directories described below. The contents of these
files are described fully in the INSTALL document.

The directories with names ending in 12 (i.e. base12 comp12 etc12
games12 man12 misc12 text12) contain split versions of the distribution
tar files. These are split to permit installation from floppy disks.

The "Kernels" directory contains two generic kernels which support
a wide variety of devices -- one contains support for Adaptec SCSI
controllers and the other contains support for all other SCSI
controllers.  Because of space constraints, the kernels on the
kernel copy floppies (in .../NetBSD-1.2/i386/floppies) do not
contain full generic kernels, and you may wish to install one of
these kernels following the completion of the install proceedure
if you cannot build your own custom kernel.  See INSTALL for details.
Note that you are encouraged to build your own custom kernel and
that these are provided only for those that cannot do so because
of space or similar constraints.

Note that the binary distribution of security related software is
contained elsewhere in a parallel directory on those distribution
sites that have it. If you are in a place where you can legally
get it (i.e. the United States), you should get and install the
security software, too. See INSTALL and the numerous README.export-control
files for details.
