This is the NetBSD-1.3.2/i386 binary release, dated 26 May 1998 The sources for this release will be located in a parallel "source/" directory at the same level as the "i386/" directory you are looking at now. *** There may be important information for you in the LAST_MINUTE file *** one level up from this one. Please read it! This release's directory structure is somewhat different than that we have used in the past. Please examine the release.7 man page (included in this directory for convenience) if you find it confusing. NOTE: There is a new install/upgrade program on the disks in this release, called "sysinst". It is fairly new and may still have some last bugs in it. If you use it to upgrade, please back up your machine first just to be safe! This is always a good idea, of course. NOTE: 1.3.* is the first major release in which users are actually expected to try to run for a brief time with a "GENERIC" kernel, which is located in the special kern.tgz install set. If you are looking for where the "GENERIC" kernel went, you can find it there. Note that some devices in "GENERIC" may cause trouble on some machines because of probing problems. Please let us know if you have difficulties. NOTE FOR PCMCIA USERS: There are known problems with PCMCIA devices under 1.3.* -- in particular, multi-function cards are known to often not work, and there are problems with installing (but not using!) PCMCIA systems with the standard install procedures. Some workarounds for the latter are documented in INSTALL. It is hoped that patches for these problems will soon be available. Please send bug reports! Enjoy! Perry E. Metzger 30 December 1997 Revised 26 May 1998
